2022/2023 Year in Review
A year of challenge, change, and growth.
Message from our Chair and CEO
This past year, amidst a rapidly changing health care landscape, we have embraced change, navigated challenges, and reached significant milestones together. The year began with navigating new waves of COVID-19, which brought more infectious variants, higher Emergency Department volumes and acuity, and longer wait times for surgeries, all while dealing with a system-wide staffing shortage. Our health care system is indeed under strain, but in the world of health care, failure is not an option. The families and patients we serve rely on us to be there for them in their greatest times of need. So instead, with an ‘honoured to care’ mindset we dug deep, and we got to work.

Clinical excellence
Kim is no stranger to Oak Valley Health. She has been a Stouffville resident for over 30 years, and both of her children (now in their early 20s) were born at Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH). Fifteen years after her children were born, Kim found herself back at MSH under less than ideal terms.

Commitment and strategy
Oak Valley Health continues to grow with its community, and as the population around our hospitals further expands, so must we. Last year, we continued on our journey to redevelop Uxbridge Hospital.
We are also in the process of getting approval for Markham Stouffville Hospital redevelopment, which would include additional patient spaces.
Our people
In March, we launched our 2023-2026 People Plan. We worked with all areas of the organization through an extensive engagement process, a literature review, and consultations with external health care human resources experts.
Priorities we are focusing on are based on internal feedback. We asked what was going well, what was not, and we consolidated the feedback into three strategic pillars, building a people-centred culture, developing new ways of working and delivering care, and creating a strategic talent management system.
